Although Blue Jays fans found it tough to witness the conclusion of Game 7 of the World Series, they were glued to their screens for the thrilling action that unfolded during the final baseball game of the season on Saturday night.
Rogers announced that its broadcast of Game 7, where the Blue Jays lost 5-4 in extra innings to the Los Angeles Dodgers, garnered an average audience of 10.9 million viewers in Canada.
This viewership figure, spanning Sportsnet, Sportsnet+, and Citytv, marked “the most-watched Rogers broadcast ever,” as declared by the company in a news release on Monday.
The Toronto-L.A. matchup drew an average of 7.5 million Canadian viewers across the seven games of the series, according to Rogers.
“The seven World Series broadcasts were the seven most-watched Blue Jays games ever,” the statement noted.
In the series against Los Angeles, Toronto ultimately lost 4-3. The Blue Jays emerged victorious in Game 1, Game 4, and Game 5 of the World Series.
Rogers Communications Inc. took full ownership of the Blue Jays in 2004 after initially acquiring a majority stake in the franchise in 2000.
The company is also the owner of the Rogers Centre stadium, formerly known as SkyDome.
Toronto Blue Jays fans may have been reeling from a devastating World Series loss, in the 11th inning of Game 7 against the Los Angeles Dodgers, but many said the team’s remarkable season could be a positive sign of things to come.
