Pop singer Sabrina Carpenter has secured a temporary restraining order against an individual who allegedly attempted to intrude into her residence in Los Angeles without prior notice, labeling the incidents as “deeply concerning.” Legal documents obtained by CBC News reveal that Carpenter’s legal team is pursuing a permanent restraining order against 31-year-old William Applegate.
In a sworn statement, Carpenter detailed how on May 23, Applegate allegedly trespassed on a neighbor’s property to breach the security perimeter shielding her home. She claimed that he proceeded to approach her front door and physically tried to forcefully enter by grabbing the handle, displaying what she described as a deliberate and aggressive approach that deeply unsettled her.
Carpenter expressed in her declaration that she felt a profound fear for her safety due to Applegate’s actions, presenting Ring security camera footage capturing the man at her doorstep as evidence. According to her account, despite intervention from her private security, Applegate refused to depart, even falsely claiming to know her personally and expecting to be welcomed, a statement Carpenter vehemently refuted.
Following Applegate’s arrest on the initial day of the incident, Carpenter asserted that he returned less than 24 hours later, lingering outside her property for an extended period. She further alleged that he made subsequent visits, with law enforcement eventually being summoned to address the situation. Images of his vehicle parked adjacent to her gate were submitted as part of the legal filing.
Carpenter highlighted a persistent pattern of stalking, trespassing, and surveillance by Applegate, causing her significant emotional distress. Security investigations disclosed that Applegate’s concerning behavior had been ongoing since at least April 20, 2026, with Carpenter noting a troubling escalation over the ensuing month.
Detective Peter Doomanis of the Los Angeles Police Department described in a signed statement Applegate’s “disturbing and irrational fixation” on Carpenter. A judge has mandated a 100-yard restriction on Applegate, forbidding him from approaching the singer, her residence, vehicle, workplace, as well as her sister and sister’s boyfriend who reside with her. A court hearing is scheduled for June 17, with Applegate also facing a criminal court appearance on June 18 for charges related to criminal trespassing.
