Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced on Sunday that he is scheduled to meet with U.S. President Donald Trump later this month to discuss the progress of Trump’s Gaza plan. Netanyahu emphasized that the second phase of the plan is nearing completion, focusing on potential pathways to peace and the cessation of Hamas’s control in Gaza. He made these remarks during a press conference held alongside German Chancellor Friedrich Merz.
Ongoing negotiations are addressing the subsequent steps of Trump’s initiative aimed at resolving the conflict in the Palestinian enclave. The plan entails the liberation of Israeli captives, the establishment of an interim technocratic Palestinian administration in Gaza, supervised by an international “board of peace,” and supported by a global security contingent.
“I am looking forward to engaging in pivotal discussions at the conclusion of this month to ensure the successful realization of the second phase,” Netanyahu stated.
Additionally, Netanyahu highlighted that the initial phase of Trump’s plan is on the verge of completion. Although there has been a decrease in hostilities following the initiation of the Gaza ceasefire on October 10, sporadic attacks persist. Notably, Hamas has released all 20 surviving hostages and 27 deceased individuals in exchange for approximately 2,000 Palestinian detainees and prisoners. However, one hostage’s remains are still held in Gaza.
