Georgia Dominates Canada with 38-17 Victory in Men’s Rugby

Date:

Georgia emerged victorious in a gripping men’s rugby clash against Canada, with Wing Shalva Aptsiauri shining by scoring three tries in a 38-17 win in Batumi, Georgia. Despite an early setback, Canada held their ground for the initial 20 minutes, but Georgia’s robust defense made it challenging for them to break through. As the game progressed, Georgia’s pack took control of the scrum, while their fast-paced backs capitalized on opportunities, securing a 17-3 lead at halftime.

Canada showed glimpses of attacking prowess, scoring two tries in the second half. However, Georgia continued to dominate, adding three more tries post-break. Alongside Aptsiauri, Demur Tapladze, Giorgi Kveseladze, and Tornike Jalagonia also contributed with tries, while Tedo Abzhandadze successfully converted four kicks.

In response, Brock Gallagher and Sion Parry found the try line for Canada, with Peter Nelson converting penalties and kicks. Both teams have secured spots in the 2027 World Cup in Australia.

The game, officiated by New Zealand referee Paul Williams, witnessed multiple penalties, leading to Georgia receiving three yellow cards and Canada one. The physical encounter took a toll on players, with injuries forcing some key players off the field.

The victory marked Georgia’s third consecutive win over Canada, improving their head-to-head record to 5-3-0. Canada’s last triumph against Georgia dates back to September 2015. Despite facing travel challenges, Canada will conclude their November tour against Portugal next week.

The match took place at the Adjarabet Arena in Batumi, with both teams showcasing commendable performances. Georgia’s early lead and resilient defense proved crucial in securing the win, solidifying their position in international rugby.
