The recent departure of Bret Michaels, the lead singer of the rock band Poison, marked the fifth artist to pull out of the Freedom 250 concerts, slated to take place from June 25 to July 10 on the National Mall in Washington, D.C. The event, as described on the Freedom 250 website, aims to honor “Celebrating the Triumph of the American Spirit.” However, certain aspects of the celebrations surrounding America’s birthday have faced criticism for allegedly glorifying Trump, such as proposals to feature his likeness on commemorative coins, bills, and a special passport.
In addition to Bret Michaels, other musicians who have withdrawn from the anniversary festivities include country singer Martina McBride and the funk and soul ensemble, the Commodores.
