Justin Timberlake faced challenges while attempting field sobriety evaluations, such as walking in a straight line and balancing on one leg, following a traffic stop in the Hamptons, New York, in 2024. Video footage released recently captured the pop star expressing the difficulty of the tests. The footage, spanning approximately eight hours, documents Timberlake’s encounter with Sag Harbor police after allegedly running a stop sign, drifting out of his lane, and emitting alcohol odor from his BMW in June of that year.
During the interaction, Timberlake mentioned having consumed a single martini and explained that he was following friends home in the historic whaling village. When questioned about his presence in town, he mentioned being on a world tour. The officer inquired further, to which Timberlake responded hesitantly about his tour and identified himself.
Timberlake, who later admitted to a reduced charge, was asked to perform sobriety tasks on the road, expressing nervousness and apologizing for his demeanor to the officers. Subsequently, he questioned the reason for his arrest while seated in the police car and later expressed surprise at being held overnight at the station.
The release of the video by Sag Harbor police followed an agreement with Timberlake’s legal team to disclose a censored version. Despite initial objections citing privacy concerns, Timberlake’s lawyers eventually consented to the release. In response to the resolution, Sag Harbor officials expressed satisfaction with the compliance with public records laws.
As part of his impaired driving conviction in September 2024, Timberlake delivered a public service message cautioning against driving under the influence. His plea deal reduced the charge to a non-criminal traffic offense, accompanied by a fine, community service hours, and a license suspension.
