Hyundai Canada has announced a safety recall for select 2024–2026 Elantra Hybrid vehicles due to a potential fire hazard. The recall affects 6,082 cars in Canada, as confirmed by Hyundai officials. According to Hyundai spokesperson Nitish Bissonauth, there have been no reported fires, incidents, injuries, or fatalities associated with this issue in Canada.
In the United States, approximately 54,337 vehicles have been recalled by Hyundai due to the same safety concern, as reported by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). The problem is attributed to a malfunction in the hybrid power control unit of certain vehicles, which could result in overheating.
The NHTSA warns that this issue may cause a “no start” situation or a decrease in power output in most instances, potentially leading to overheating and an increased fire risk. Hyundai has assured that it will contact all affected vehicle owners and provide a complimentary software update to address the overheating issue.
