“Elon Musk’s AI Chatbot Violates Privacy Laws”

Date:

The Canadian federal privacy commissioner has found that the production of sexual deepfakes by Elon Musk’s Grok AI chatbot infringed upon privacy laws. This conclusion stems from the watchdog’s assertion that Grok’s AI image generation tool was introduced without sufficient protective measures and failed to adequately consider privacy concerns. The commissioner initiated an inquiry in January to assess the spread of sexualized deepfakes generated by Grok and shared on the X social media platform. It was revealed that Grok was being utilized to create numerous sexualized deepfakes. The investigation focused on evaluating whether the companies involved adhered to privacy regulations and whether they obtained proper consent to gather, use, and disclose personal information for the production of deepfakes, including explicit content. The circulation of these images prompted strong disapproval worldwide, leading to the U.K., the European Union, and California launching their own investigations.
