Céline Dion unveiled a fresh single on Friday, marking her latest return to the music scene. The new track titled “Dansons,” which translates to “Let’s dance” in English, is a soft and romantic French-language ballad. Alongside the release of the single, Dion also premiered a music video filled with romantic moments set in Paris, featuring various couples dancing freely amid bustling crowds.
The new single drop comes ahead of the announcement of Dion’s upcoming 16-show performance at the Paris La Défense Arena from September 12 to October 17. Speculation about her comeback was confirmed following the appearance of mysterious signs in Paris showcasing lyrics from Dion’s popular songs like “My Heart Will Go On” and “The Power of Love.”
Dion’s return to the spotlight is significant as she had been absent from the stage due to health issues that led to the cancellation of her previous world tour. “Dansons,” written by renowned songwriter Jean-Jacques Goldman, marks Dion’s first French release in over a decade and her first original song in years, following her last release in 2023 for the film “Love Again.”
Jean-Jacques Goldman and Dion have a collaborative history, having previously worked together on projects like “Encore un soir” in 2016 and her 1995 album “D’eux,” which remains the best-selling French-language album of all time.
In 2023, Dion had to cancel her Courage world tour after revealing her battle with stiff person syndrome, a rare neurological disorder that impacts a very small number of individuals. The tour had already faced delays in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Dion made a public singing comeback in July 2024 with a performance of Edith Piaf’s “Hymn to Love” at the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games in Paris, and later that November at a fashion event in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, celebrating designer Elie Saab’s 45-year career.
