“Canadian Triathlete Sophia Howell Lands Podium Finish at World Cup”

Sophia Howell of Canada achieved a significant milestone by securing a spot on the podium at the World Triathlon Cup for the first time. The Airdrie, Alta., native completed the sprint-distance race in San Pedro de la Paz, Chile, with a time of one hour, one minute, and 12 seconds. Expressing her excitement, the 23-year-old Howell mentioned that she was pleasantly surprised by her third-place finish and described herself as being thrilled about the achievement.

Howell finished the race just three seconds behind Jeanne Lehair from Luxembourg, who secured second place, and nine seconds behind the champion, Miriam Casillas Garcia from Spain. Another Canadian, Emy Legault from L’Ile Perrot, Que., finished in 12th place in the same race.

In the men’s competition, Martin Sobey from Charlottetown emerged as the highest-placed Canadian, finishing in the 14th position.
