Winnipeg Blue Bombers have confirmed that Mike O’Shea will continue as the team’s head coach in the upcoming season. O’Shea, aged 55, a distinguished figure in the CFL with two Coach of the Year titles and six Grey Cup victories, will mark his 12th year at the helm of the Bombers in 2026.
Under O’Shea’s leadership, Winnipeg has seen an impressive playoff streak of nine consecutive seasons, including five consecutive Grey Cup appearances from 2019 to 2024, clinching the championship in the first two appearances. The decision for O’Shea’s return comes at a crucial time with the Toronto Argonauts now seeking a new head coach following Ryan Dinwiddie’s departure to take on the role of coach and general manager for the Ottawa Redblacks.
Originally from North Bay, Ontario, O’Shea has a storied history with the Argonauts, serving as a linebacker from 1996 to 1999 and 2001 to 2008. He then transitioned into coaching, working as Toronto’s special teams coordinator from 2010 to 2013 before assuming the head coach position at the Bombers.
In addition to O’Shea’s extension, the Blue Bombers have also confirmed that their general manager, Kyle Walters, whose contract was also nearing its end, will be returning for the upcoming season.
