Stellantis, the parent company of Chrysler, announced on Friday a global recall of approximately 1.5 million Ram 1500 pickup trucks due to a seat belt issue. The recall affects Ram 1500 vehicles manufactured between 2019 and 2026 that may have a second-row center or driver side seat belt buckle anchor that was not correctly attached to the vehicle’s body structure. This defect could compromise the functionality of the second-row seat belt system, potentially increasing the risk of injury to occupants. While Stellantis has reported one injury possibly linked to the recall, there have been no fatalities associated with this issue.
The recall encompasses 1.27 million vehicles in the United States, 156,000 in Canada, 15,000 in Mexico, and approximately 75,000 in other regions outside North America. Stellantis will be contacting affected vehicle owners to arrange for inspections at authorized dealerships. During the inspection, dealers will assess the second-row center and driver seat belt buckle anchor and ensure proper attachment to the vehicle’s body if necessary.
