Another standout Canadian production, the CBC/Netflix comedy “North of North,” secured victories for best comedy series and best lead actress for Anna Lambe. The show, filmed in Nunavut, received a total of 20 nominations and won seven awards during the prior gala, including best writing and best supporting actor.
In the movie category, the acclaimed comedy “Nirvanna the Band the Show the Movie” triumphed by winning the best motion picture award, surpassing R.T. Thorne’s post-apocalyptic thriller “40 Acres.”
Toronto-born musician and composer Jay McCarrol clinched the best leading role performance award for the film adaptation of the cult-classic series. The event, held at the CBC Broadcast Centre in Toronto, attracted fans eager to catch a glimpse of “Heated Rivalry” stars Hudson Williams and Sophie Nélisse, whose performances have captivated audiences worldwide.
Sophie Nélisse, who plays Rose Landry, Williams’s on-screen girlfriend in “Heated Rivalry” and won a Screen Award for best supporting performer, was honored with the prestigious Radius Award recognizing her international impact on Canadian content.
The gala, hosted by Calgary-born actor and comedian Andrew Phung, celebrated the surge of Canadian productions gaining mainstream recognition. Comedian Mike Myers was also acknowledged with the Icon Award for his significant contributions to the entertainment industry.
