“NBA Star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander’s Home Burglarized During Game”

Date:

Police are currently probing a burglary incident at a residence linked to Oklahoma City Thunder’s Shai Gilgeous-Alexander that occurred while the NBA star was engaged in a game the preceding night. The Thunder directed inquiries to local law enforcement in Nichols Hills, situated north of downtown Oklahoma City, although authorities declined to disclose the occupant of the house or items potentially taken.

Originally hailing from Hamilton, Ont., Gilgeous-Alexander’s home was reportedly targeted around 7:45 p.m. on Thursday as he competed in a game against the Washington Wizards at home. Police, responding to a burglary report, indicated that the suspects had absconded before their arrival. However, no arrests have been made, and there is no perceived threat to the public.

This incident reflects a series of break-ins at properties of prominent professional athletes nationwide, with assailants believed to target such individuals due to the presumed presence of high-value possessions. Notable sports figures who have fallen victim to burglaries include NFL stars Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce, and Joe Burrow, NBA standout Luka Doncic, and NHL player Evgeni Malkin.

Law enforcement authorities have cautioned sports leagues about a trend where criminals strike on game days when athletes are absent, typically entering through rear windows. In response, the NBA issued a directive to teams in November 2024 advocating for enhanced home security measures. Recommendations include the installation of updated alarm systems with cameras, utilization of secure safes for valuables, removal of online property listings showing interior images, engagement of guard services during extended absences, and consideration of canine security assistance.
