“Stellantis, Microsoft Form Strategic Partnership for AI & Cybersecurity”

Date:

Stellantis and Microsoft announced a five-year strategic partnership to collaborate on artificial intelligence (AI), cybersecurity, and engineering capabilities. This move comes as the automaker aims to keep up with technology-focused competitors. The integration of software and data-driven services has become pivotal in the long-term strategies of automotive companies, particularly as Chinese automakers accelerate the development of features to attract customers both locally and globally.

Traditional automakers, facing challenges in mastering software and technology independently, are increasingly seeking partnerships with tech firms to tap into their expertise and accelerate progress. Ned Curic, Stellantis Chief Engineering and Technology Officer, highlighted the collaboration with Microsoft as a means to advance their AI initiatives across the enterprise. However, specific financial details of the partnership were not disclosed.

Stellantis has strategically engaged in tech partnerships to drive its software ambitions and enhance personalized experiences for drivers. The collaboration with Microsoft builds upon their previous joint work on connected vehicle platforms and in-car digital services. The agreement entails the co-development of over 100 AI initiatives focusing on product development, predictive maintenance, testing, and the swift deployment of digital features and services.

Additionally, the partnership will reinforce Stellantis’ global cyber defense center by leveraging AI-powered analytics to mitigate cyber threats and safeguard vehicles, customer data, and operations worldwide. The cyber defense center will encompass IT systems, connected vehicles, manufacturing sites, and digital products, enhancing security measures across mobile apps and in-vehicle services.

As part of the collaboration, Stellantis plans to streamline its IT infrastructure on Microsoft’s Azure cloud platform, aiming for a 60% reduction in its data center footprint by 2029. This strategic alliance underscores the commitment of both Stellantis and Microsoft to drive innovation and enhance technological capabilities in the automotive industry.
