“Vehicle Crashes into ER Entrance at Cowichan Hospital”

Date:

RCMP is currently conducting an investigation following an incident where a vehicle collided with the entrance of Cowichan District Hospital’s emergency room located in Duncan on Vancouver Island. The authorities were alerted around 7:40 p.m. PT last Saturday and discovered a black Chevrolet Traverse SUV stuck in the hospital’s entrance doors. Social media quickly shared images depicting the vehicle inside the ER waiting room.

The driver, a 42-year-old woman, reportedly attacked two paramedics who arrived to assist her, resulting in minor injuries to one of them. Fortunately, no hospital staff or patients were harmed during the incident. The driver was eventually restrained and taken into custody under the Mental Health Act.

Island Health has confirmed that the hospital structure did not sustain any lasting damage. Temporary doors have been set up in the affected area, ensuring patient access remains unaffected. The health authority has assured the public that emergency medical services at the hospital are still available.

At present, there is no specific timeline for the commencement of permanent repairs or an estimate on the associated costs. Island Health expressed gratitude for the prompt response from their staff and the assistance provided by the North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP. Individuals with relevant information are urged to reach out to the North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP for further assistance.
