The 2025 World Series shifts back to Toronto for Game 6, with a baseball-free night after Trey Yesavage’s remarkable performance in Game 5. The 22-year-old Blue Jays pitcher set a rookie post-season record with 12 strikeouts in over 100 pitches at Dodger Stadium, surpassing the previous record set in 1949 by Don Newcombe of the Brooklyn Dodgers.
Yesavage made history as the first pitcher in MLB to achieve 12 strikeouts in a World Series game without issuing any walks, with the only run against him being a solo homer in the third inning. Additionally, he pitched seven innings in Game 5, a notable achievement in the post-season where starters have had short outings.
Despite being a relatively new player, Yesavage’s journey from the minors to the majors culminated in his standout performance. Known as “The Cheat Code” during his earlier playing days, his dominance on the field has impressed many, including his former coach Shaun Vernesoni.
Yesavage’s exceptional pitching in Game 5 included inducing 23 swings and misses on 52 swings, the most in a World Series game since tracking began. He managed to strike out key MVPs like Shohei Ohtani, Freddie Freeman, and Mookie Betts from the Dodgers lineup.
The Blue Jays are now on the brink of their first World Series title since 1993, propelled by Yesavage’s stellar pitching and the team’s determination. As they look ahead to Game 6, the focus remains on clinching the championship, with excitement building for the game in Toronto.
