“Saskatchewan Roughriders Introduce Tailgating for Home Games”

Date:

Saskatchewan Roughriders supporters are set to enjoy a new tailgating experience outside Mosaic Stadium as the province unveils its anticipated tailgating legislation. The recently introduced Tailgating Act modifies the Alcohol Control Regulations in the province to permit tailgating in a parking lot adjoining the Roughriders stadium during home games.

Craig Reynolds, the CEO and President of the Roughriders, emphasized that the introduction of tailgating exclusively for season ticket holders aims to enhance fan experience rather than solely generate revenue. Reynolds anticipates high demand and envisions season ticket holders engaging in pregame festivities before heading to the game.

The initiative will commence with a limited number of attendees to ensure manageability, with the potential for future expansion, according to Reynolds. The supervision of the tailgating area will be overseen by staff, likely from Regina Exhibition Association Limited (REAL), with controlled vehicle access and enforcement of conduct expectations as outlined by the province.

Alana Ross, the minister overseeing the Saskatchewan Liquor and Gaming Authority, highlighted that the regulations will mandate permits and entail close collaboration with SLGA to ensure a successful implementation. Ross expressed a collective effort to provide an enjoyable experience for Roughriders fans and enhance the overall event atmosphere.

Reynolds mentioned that the provincial legislation was prompted by the Roughriders’ engagement with the government earlier this year. He also discussed exploring tailgating policies with other CFL teams such as Calgary and Edmonton, with a potential expansion of research to other markets. The planned regulations are anticipated to be in place for the 2026 CFL season, initially limited to events at Mosaic Stadium during Saskatchewan Roughriders home games, with the possibility of extending eligibility post the 2026 CFL season.
