British authorities reported that a mass stabbing incident on a train bound for London resulted in 10 individuals being hospitalized, with nine sustaining critical injuries. The attack triggered a major response, with counter-terrorism units aiding the investigation. Police disclosed that a national code word for potential terror threats was activated but later rescinded, while the motive behind the attack remains undisclosed.
The assault occurred as the train was en route from Doncaster to London King’s Cross, approaching Huntingdon. Swift emergency services intervention, including armed officers and air ambulances, contained the situation upon the train’s arrival at Huntingdon station. Two individuals were apprehended at the scene by armed police, with the incident location situated approximately 120 kilometers north of London.
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer expressed solidarity with those impacted by the “appalling incident,” while Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Mayor Paul Bristow described hearing about the “horrendous scenes” witnessed on the train. The train operator, London North Eastern Railway (LNER), confirmed the occurrence on its service, advising passengers against travel due to significant disruptions.
