“Heated Rivalry” Wins Prestigious Peabody Award

The Canadian ice hockey drama series “Heated Rivalry” has been honored with a prestigious Peabody Award. The show, a collaboration between Crave, Bell Media, and HBO Max, gained unexpected popularity following its debut in November 2025. It was recently recognized as one of the 11 outstanding TV productions in the entertainment sector.

According to the Peabody Awards jurors, “Heated Rivalry” skillfully navigates intricate themes of sexuality and emotional bonds, resonating with audiences and advocating for healthy masculinity. The series, helmed by Montreal filmmaker Jacob Tierney and inspired by the works of Halifax writer Rachel Reid, delves into the clandestine romantic relationship between fictional professional hockey players Shane Hollander and Ilya Rozanov.

Following the announcement, Tierney expressed gratitude for the recognition, emphasizing the complexity and depth of the story’s portrayal. Reid also shared her pride in the achievement, along with a joyful emoji. The Directors Guild of Canada in Ontario joined the accolades, commending the dedicated team members who contributed to the show.

The 86th Annual Peabody Awards ceremony, where the winners will be formally acknowledged, is scheduled to take place in Los Angeles on May 31st.
