“Grammy Awards 2026 Updates: New Categories Announced”

Date:

The Recording Academy has announced updates to the rules for the 2026 Grammy Awards, introducing five new categories. Among the new additions is the best Asian pop music performance category, recognizing artists in genres like K-pop, J-pop, and C-pop. Another new category is best traditional pop vocal performance for music that stands apart from current pop trends.

Additionally, a new best Latin song category will honor songwriters of Spanish-language songs. Changes have been made to R&B and folk categories, with a new best R&B collaboration award and a shift in the folk category to best contemporary and traditional folk albums.

In a significant change, adjustments have been made to the best new artist category, allowing artists to submit up to four times and emphasizing the artist’s impact on the music industry during the eligibility year. The rule book specifies criteria for artist eligibility, excluding those who have received Grammy nominations in the past.

The Grammy Awards will also expand the voting eligibility for certain members, aiming to reflect the diversity and growth in the music industry. Harvey Mason Jr., CEO of the Recording Academy, expressed excitement for the upcoming year, highlighting the changes as a reflection of the evolving music landscape and the talents shaping it.
