Gélinas-Beaulieu, who last raced a mass start two years ago in Calgary, expressed satisfaction with his performance, noting the competitive field but lack of surprises that allowed him to strategically position himself for the final sprint.
On the women’s side, Valérie Maltais of La Baie, Que., emerged victorious in the mass start event, clocking 9:08.72. The seasoned skater expressed nerves but confidence before the race, emphasizing her desire to secure a spot to represent Canada at the upcoming World Cups.
Meanwhile, Ottawa’s Ivanie Blondin already holds a prequalification for the World Cups, courtesy of her stellar international performances, including a silver medal at the world Championships in Hamar, Norway. The final team selection for the World Cup campaign will be based on the results from the recent championships and past international achievements.
