Flavor Flav, aged 66, reached a speed of 106 kilometers per hour, sparking his interest in the sport of sliding.

Introducing the latest supporter of the United States bobsled and skeleton program: a renowned figure in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, a founding member of Public Enemy, a reality TV personality, and now, an enthusiastic slider. Flav was recently named the official hype man for USA Bobsled and Skeleton after spending time with the team at the 2002 Olympic track in Utah.

He is gearing up to accompany the team at the Milan-Cortina Olympics in February.

“Being part of this partnership is truly a blessing,” expressed Flav from Park City, Utah. “It’s even more exciting than the movie ‘Cool Runnings,’ it’s ‘Coolest Runnings’!”

During his recent visit, Flav, whose legal name is William Jonathan Drayton Jr., tried both bobsledding and skeleton sports at the Park City track. Despite initial safety precautions, Flav insisted on starting from a higher point on the track, demonstrating his eagerness for a challenge. Eventually, he achieved a speed of 108 km/h on his second run.

For a newcomer to the sport, Flav’s performance was exceptional. It remains unconfirmed whether he exclaimed his famous catchphrase, ‘Yeah, boyeeeee.’

“He is undoubtedly one of the most adventurous and coolest individuals I have ever met,” remarked U.S. skeleton athlete Dan Barefoot to The Associated Press. “He was determined to start from a higher point on the track. I was amazed at his skill level. While the sport demands great expertise, he made it seem effortless.”

Engagement in Sports Events

Flav has a strong connection with sports:

  • He famously poured mayo as a celebrity guest at the Duke’s Mayo Bowl last year, participating in the post-game celebrations by dousing Minnesota coach P.J. Fleck with 5 gallons of mayo.
  • He frequently performs at Super Bowl events and showed support for Billie Jean King when she received her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
  • He has been a notable supporter of Olympians, including discus thrower Veronica Fraley.
  • During the Paris Olympics, Flav served as the official hype man for the U.S. women’s water polo team.

“We are all thrilled to have him with us,” added Barefoot. “Beyond his renowned hype-man status, the energy he brings has united us all. People who rarely interact are now high-fiving and hugging due to the positive atmosphere he creates. There is a great sense of energy and confidence among us.”
