Grammy award-winning artist Chappell Roan has responded to allegations from Brazilian-Italian soccer star Jorginho that a security guard mistreated his 11-year-old stepdaughter after she recognized the singer. Jorginho, also known as Jorginho Frello and a player for Flamengo, claimed that the incident took place in a Sao Paulo hotel where Roan was staying for the Lollapalooza Brazil music festival.
According to Jorginho, his daughter, who is the child of Catherine Harding and actor Jude Law, simply wanted to confirm Roan’s identity during breakfast. However, Jorginho stated that a security guard approached his family in an aggressive manner following the incident, leading him to express his disappointment in Roan’s behavior.
In response, Roan addressed the situation on Instagram, clarifying that the security guard was not under her employ and that she was unaware of the woman and child involved. She emphasized that assumptions about one’s intentions by security personnel are unjust and expressed regret if the mother and child felt uncomfortable.
The controversy also drew comments from Rio’s new mayor, Eduardo Cavaliere, who remarked on the incident and made remarks about Roan’s potential performances in the city. Additionally, Jorginho’s daughter was announced as a special guest at an upcoming concert by Shakira on Copacabana Beach.
Roan, known for her open embrace of drag culture and being openly queer, gained popularity in 2024 with hits like “Good Luck, Babe!,” “Red Wine Supernova,” and “Hot To Go!” from her album “The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess,” ultimately winning the Grammy for Best New Artist in February.
Jorginho later shared an update on social media showing his daughter’s excitement at attending Sabrina Carpenter’s show at Lollapalooza, reassuring followers that everything was fine between the girls.
