Pop singer Chappell Roan announced on Monday that she has severed ties with the talent agency overseen by Casey Wasserman, the head of Los Angeles 2028 Olympics, following public backlash over his past flirtatious email exchanges with convicted sex trafficker Ghislaine Maxwell over two decades ago. Wasserman has expressed regret for his communication with Maxwell after private emails between them surfaced.
Recent disclosures from the U.S. Justice Department unveiled fresh details linking Wasserman, who was married at the time, with Maxwell through flirtatious email communications dating back to 2003. Roan took to Instagram to declare her departure from Wasserman’s agency, emphasizing the importance of artists being represented by entities that uphold their values and ensure their well-being. Roan stated that the decision reflects her belief in the necessity of accountability and trustworthy leadership for substantial change in the industry.
Wasserman, a prominent figure in sports and entertainment, has refuted any personal or professional affiliation with Epstein, emphasizing that his association with Maxwell predates the revelation of her and Epstein’s criminal activities. The talent agency led by Wasserman refrained from immediate comment on the matter.
Maxwell, currently serving a 20-year prison sentence following her conviction in New York in 2021 on charges related to sex trafficking, was arrested in 2020 for allegedly procuring and grooming young girls for sexual encounters with Epstein between 1994 and 2004. The release of extensive internal documents by the U.S. Justice Department has exposed Epstein’s connections to various influential individuals before and after his 2008 guilty plea for soliciting an underage girl for prostitution. Epstein’s demise in a Manhattan jail in 2019 was ruled as a suicide.
