“Canadian Charities Linked to Controversial Israeli Settlements”

Date:

Since the 1960s, Israel has been constructing settlements in the West Bank, an area considered illegal under international law and criticized by the Canadian government. Alongside these settlements, there have been numerous instances of violence by Israeli settlers against Palestinians whose residences are being demolished to make way for the settlements.

A recent investigation by CBC’s the fifth estate revealed that Canadian charities have indirectly been supporting organizations, including the Israeli military, that back the ongoing growth of these settlements. This support involves issuing tax receipts for donations, despite contravening the regulations governing registered Canadian charities.

Host Ioanna Roumeliotis delves into her team’s findings and explains why critics argue that these donations are fueling violence, jeopardizing the prospects of peace and a Palestinian state.
