Bruce Springsteen Releases “Streets of Minneapolis”

Date:

Bruce Springsteen has released a new song titled “Streets of Minneapolis,” dedicating it to the residents of Minneapolis and criticizing President Donald Trump’s immigration enforcement actions in the city. The song’s lyrics depict a city in turmoil facing challenges under what Springsteen refers to as “King Trump’s private army.”

Springsteen stated that he wrote and recorded the song in response to a recent fatal shooting by federal immigration agents in Minneapolis. The track is a tribute to the people of Minneapolis, particularly the innocent immigrant community, and is dedicated to the memory of Alex Pretti and Renee Good, the two victims of the incident.

In a response to the song, a White House spokesperson, Abigail Jackson, emphasized the administration’s focus on collaborating with state and local authorities to remove dangerous criminal illegal immigrants from communities, dismissing the song as irrelevant opinions with inaccurate information.

The song starts softly with just acoustic guitar and vocals, gradually building up to a fuller band arrangement that includes a harmonica solo. It concludes with a chant of “ICE Out!” as Springsteen sings about standing up for Minneapolis and welcoming strangers into the community.

The title of the song, “Streets of Minneapolis,” draws parallels to Springsteen’s previous work, such as “Streets of Philadelphia,” a song associated with the film “Philadelphia” in 1993.

Bruce Springsteen has a history of criticizing President Trump, and the two have engaged in public disputes. Last year, during a tour in England, Springsteen denounced the administration as corrupt and incompetent, prompting Trump to retaliate by calling Springsteen an “overrated” and “dried-out prune of a rocker.”
