Singer Bonnie Tyler has come out of a coma but remains in critical condition in intensive care, according to an update on her official website. The husky-voiced, Grammy-nominated pop icon, aged 75, underwent emergency intestinal surgery last month in Faro, Portugal, where she resides, and was subsequently placed in a medically induced coma.
Although she has now regained consciousness, her recovery is progressing slowly. Her medical team is optimistic about her eventual full recovery but acknowledges that it will be a gradual process. As a result of her health issues, Tyler’s scheduled performances up to August have been either canceled or rescheduled. However, there is still optimism that her autumn shows will proceed as planned.
Best known for her iconic 1980s power ballad “Total Eclipse of the Heart,” which always gains popularity during solar or lunar eclipses, Tyler, a former coal miner’s daughter from Wales, initially rose to fame with her 1978 hit “It’s a Heartache.” The famous song “Total Eclipse of the Heart” was penned by Jim Steinman, the producer and songwriter known for his work with Meat Loaf.
