Kelowna RCMP have reported the arrest and detention of an individual following a fire incident at Knox Mountain Park on Friday. The authorities closed access to the park, situated in a residential neighborhood near the downtown area, upon the discovery of smoke and flames on the mountainside. In response, police and the fire department assisted hikers in safely descending from the mountain.
Despite concerns over high winds in the vicinity, emergency crews successfully contained the fire by 4:45 p.m. PT and remained on-site for further monitoring. Described as Kelowna’s largest natural park, Knox Mountain Park covers an area of 3.85 square kilometers just north of the downtown area. The city had conducted controlled burning activities in the park on October 16.
