A new rendition of Queen’s iconic song “Bohemian Rhapsody” is causing a stir on social media as it was sung in Minionese by TikTok creator Ella Mott at the Hollywood Dolby Theatre during the premiere of “Minions & Monsters.” The video of Mott singing the 1975 hit in Minionese has gained viral attention with over 420,000 views on Instagram.
Audience members were both puzzled and entertained by the unique performance. Minionese, also known as the “Banana Language,” is a nonsensical language that incorporates elements from various real-world languages like English, featuring words such as “banana,” “bapple,” and “potato.”
Mott’s flawless rendition in Minionese has garnered praise from fans on social media platforms, with many commending her unusual talent. One user humorously commented that Freddie Mercury would have been proud in some way, while another expressed being moved to tears by the performance.
Mott, who seems adept in speaking Minionese, has shared several videos on her TikTok account showcasing her proficiency in the language. This is not the first time her Minionese rendition of “Bohemian Rhapsody” has gained attention, as a previous video posted in January received millions of likes and views.
The Minionese rendition of the classic song was part of a Minion singing contest held during the premiere of “Minions & Monsters.” The winner sang “I’ll Be There” by the Jackson 5 and was awarded a Golden Banana. The latest installment in the “Despicable Me” franchise, “Minions & Monsters,” is set to hit theaters on July 1.
