The government has greenlit emergency funding of $76 million for Flair Airlines to alleviate the financial strain caused by the steep rise in jet fuel prices affecting airlines. Flair CEO Len Corrado expressed gratitude for the support, highlighting that it underscores the government’s acknowledgment of the industry’s challenges and its commitment to ensuring competitiveness.
The Canada Enterprise Emergency Funding Corp. has sanctioned bailout loans to help offset the significant increase in fuel costs and make air travel more accessible to consumers. The loan, provided to Flair Airlines, is expected to be repaid within four years, with interest rates set below the prevailing market rates.
In a related development, Transat A.T. Inc., the parent company of Air Transat, has received $430 million in financial assistance following the escalation of energy prices due to the Iran conflict, which has nearly doubled the cost of jet fuel compared to a year ago. Furthermore, Porter Airlines recently secured a $125 million bailout loan from the government to navigate the ongoing challenges in the aviation sector.
