The creators of the popular show South Park, Matt Stone and Trey Parker, have affirmed their commitment to satirizing U.S. President Trump in the upcoming season, despite facing criticism from a new group that they humorously note “has a military.” The award-winning showrunners discussed their bold approach in a recent video for the 19th Television Academy Honors, emphasizing the show’s history of irreverent humor and their decision to mock Trump’s presidency in recent seasons. They described South Park as serving the traditional role of America’s court jester, which they believe Trump is now embodying.
Reflecting on the show’s long-standing defiance against censorship from various quarters, Parker highlighted the evolving nature of these critics, spanning across liberal and Republican groups. He stressed the importance of humor and satire in society, particularly when political figures like Trump take on roles typically reserved for jesters.
Stone further elaborated on their creative choices, explaining their depiction of Trump as the antagonist in the previous season. The 2025 season premiere featured a provocative portrayal of Trump in bed with Satan, reminiscent of their treatment of Saddam Hussein in the 1999 film South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut. The season also targeted other political figures such as Vice-President JD Vance, former homeland security secretary Kristi Noem, and former U.S. attorney general Pam Bondi.
In response to their satirical portrayals, U.S. officials expressed disapproval, with the White House denouncing the show’s content as hypocritical.
