“Fundraising Concert to Aid Wildfire Victims Premieres in Newfoundland”

Date:

A fundraising concert to support individuals affected by the recent wildfires is scheduled for tonight in St. John’s and will be aired throughout Newfoundland and Labrador.

Chris Andrews, a key figure behind the event named We Stand on Guard Once More, will be performing with his band Shanneyganock. Expressing his gratitude, Andrews mentioned, “It’s a privilege to contribute to our province during this time of need.”

This unique concert gathers various traditional Newfoundland acts for a remarkable showcase, a first of its kind in the region. While the live event at the Jag Soundhouse in St. John’s is sold out, Andrews aims to generate substantial donations from viewers tuning in from home via local media channels.

Encouraging a sense of community, Andrews hopes people will come together, whether at home, in cabins, sheds, or kitchens, to watch the show, fostering support for fellow Newfoundlanders and Labradorians.

The charity has a history of aiding communities impacted by natural disasters like Hurricane Igor in 2010 and post-tropical storm Fiona in 2022. The previous fundraiser, which raised $2.2 million for post-tropical storm Fiona relief in Newfoundland’s southwest coast, included matching funds from the federal government, though no such guarantee has been announced for this event.

All proceeds from the concert will be directed to the Canadian Red Cross N.L. Wildfire Response Fund. The lineup for the event, hosted by CBC’s Damhnait Doyle and NTV’s Toni Marie Wiseman, includes renowned acts like Buddy Wasisname and the Other Fellers, The Ennis Sisters, and many more.

The concert will air on Monday, Nov. 10 at 7:30 p.m. NT / 7 p.m. AT on various platforms, such as CBC TV, CBC Gem, CBC Radio One, and CBC N.L.’s YouTube page, as well as NTV, VOCM, and other radio stations.
