Actor Mike Smith, known for his portrayal of Bubbles in the popular series Trailer Park Boys, faces allegations of sexual assault.
Court documents in Nova Scotia show that Smith was charged on Oct. 2 in Halifax relating to an incident on Dec. 30, 2017 in Dartmouth, N.S.
The accusations are pending court verification.
A publication ban shields the identity of the alleged victim, who Smith has been directed to avoid contacting or visiting their school, workplace, or residence.
Trailer Park Boys Inc. disclosed that Smith has voluntarily stepped down from his position as the company’s managing director.
The company stated, “We acknowledge the accusation against Mike Smith from 2017 and treat such claims with gravity. We understand the sensitivity of allegations of this nature to all parties involved. In deference to the legal process, we will refrain from further comments on the issue.”
Efforts to obtain comments from Smith’s representatives and legal counsel by CBC News are still pending.
Over the span of more than twenty years, Smith, along with Robb Wells and John Paul Tremblay, the other main actors, have gained international recognition as one of Nova Scotia’s prominent exports.
Since its debut in 2001, the series has amassed a dedicated fan base, airing globally on platforms like Netflix and Crave, as well as on the Trailer Park Boys streaming service.
In 2013, the trio acquired the rights to the Trailer Park Boys franchise.
Earlier this year, Trailer Park Boys Inc. revealed the completion of filming for Season 13 of the TV show, the first since 2018, with a scheduled release in 2026.
Despite the legal charges, the company emphasized its commitment to delivering the long-awaited 13th season to their supporters.
In 2016, Smith was arrested in Los Angeles on a misdemeanor domestic battery charge following an alleged incident at a hotel in Hollywood.
Following the incident, Smith and the purported victim issued a joint statement refuting the claims, stating they were friends who had a disagreement.
The charges were eventually dismissed due to insufficient evidence as per the Los Angeles City Attorney’s office.
Smith is set to appear in a Halifax court on Monday.
