“Trump’s Crypto Empire Booms, Raking in $1.2B”

Date:

U.S. President Donald Trump reaped close to $1.2 billion from his cryptocurrency ventures last year, as revealed in a federal filing made public on Tuesday. Despite investors facing losses, Trump’s crypto businesses flourished, surpassing the revenue generated by his extensive real estate holdings amassed over decades. The surge in profits was fueled by billionaire backers and Trump’s efforts to curb federal scrutiny on the industry.

According to the mandatory annual disclosure report submitted to the Office of Government Ethics, Trump pocketed over $500 million from World Liberty Financial, a business selling innovative crypto products such as “governance tokens.” Additionally, CIC Digital LLC, another crypto enterprise, raked in more than $600 million from the sale of novelty “meme” coins featuring Trump’s likeness. However, the value of both tokens and coins plummeted post-sales.

In an unprecedented move for a sitting president, Trump also garnered millions by selling Trump-branded merchandise like Bibles, sneakers, and other items. Notably, the sale of Trump-branded watches alone generated $4.7 million in revenue.

The 927-page disclosure form offers a glimpse of the significant expansion in the president’s wealth since assuming office, highlighting a network of business interests that benefited from governmental policy decisions. Contrary to his predecessors, Trump has entrusted his financial affairs to his sons, defying conflict-of-interest safeguards.

With Forbes estimating Trump’s net worth at $6 billion, a substantial increase from $2.3 billion in 2024, his business empire continues to grow domestically and abroad. Notably, his real estate ventures saw a surge in income, with lucrative deals struck in various countries that were concurrently engaged in negotiations with the U.S. on critical matters like tariffs and military aid.

Despite regulatory concerns, Trump’s administration pivoted towards a favorable stance on the cryptocurrency sector, driving policies conducive to industry growth. Despite warnings from regulators regarding governance tokens, investors, including a Chinese billionaire, seized the opportunity, pouring millions into these assets and the commemorative coins.

While the White House has defended Trump’s business practices, emphasizing the separation of his personal affairs from official duties, questions persist about potential conflicts of interest. The disclosure report sheds light on Trump’s overseas dealings with private entities, raising concerns about transparency in dealings with authoritarian regimes.

From the soaring revenue from his Mar-a-Lago property to the controversial dealings abroad, Trump’s financial activities continue to draw scrutiny and debate over ethical considerations and potential impacts on U.S. foreign relations.
