“Timber Timbre Frontman Taylor Kirk, 44, Passes Away”

Date:

Taylor Kirk, the lead singer and songwriter of the musical group Timber Timbre, passed away at the age of 44. A spokesperson for Kirk confirmed the sudden death on April 14 to CBC Music. Expressing deep sorrow, the representative stated, “We are profoundly saddened by the loss of Taylor, and his presence will be deeply missed. His musical legacy will endure through the timeless tunes we are fortunate to have.”

In 2005, Kirk established the folk-noir project Timber Timbre and unveiled the debut album “Medicinals” in 2007. The third self-titled album by Timber Timbre made it to the longlist for the 2009 Polaris Music Prize, while the subsequent release “Creep on Creepin’ On” in 2011 was shortlisted for the prize. Additionally, Timber Timbre’s music found placements in various films and television series such as “Breaking Bad,” “Russian Doll,” and Sarah Polley’s “Stories We Tell.”

NPR Music described Timber Timbre as a band led by Taylor Kirk, a vocalist with a subtly soothing voice, crafting sparse, leisurely-paced melodies akin to nocturnal sounds echoing from a murky forest. They likened the music to what one might anticipate in a David Lynch film or HBO’s chilling series “True Detective”: dark, unsettling, yet strangely captivating.

The Tiny Desk performance by Timber Timbre in 2014 featured tracks like “Run From Me” and “Grand Canyon.” Kirk’s most recent album with Timber Timbre, “Lovage,” was released in 2023, marking his seventh studio album.
