Three suicide bombers attacked the headquarters of a Pakistani paramilitary force on Monday, resulting in the deaths of three personnel and injuries to at least five others, as confirmed by authorities. The perpetrators initiated the assault by opening fire as they breached the Federal Constabulary headquarters in Peshawar city before detonating explosives within the compound, according to police reports.
Deputy Commandant Javed Iqbal stated that three paramilitary members lost their lives in the attack. An unnamed senior official disclosed to Reuters that the initial bomber targeted the main entrance while the subsequent assailants infiltrated the premises. The official, speaking anonymously due to lack of media authorization, mentioned that law enforcement, including the army and police, have secured and are managing the situation cautiously, suspecting the presence of additional terrorists within the headquarters.
The paramilitary force’s base, situated in a densely populated section of Peshawar, has been sealed off and monitored by army, police, and security personnel, as mentioned by Safdar Khan, a local resident. The injured, including two paramilitary personnel, were swiftly transported to Lady Reading Hospital for treatment, according to Mohammad Asim, the hospital spokesperson.
As of now, no militant group has claimed responsibility for the incident. However, there has been an escalation in attacks by Islamist militants in the area following recent border clashes between Pakistan and Afghanistan. Pakistan has accused the Afghan Taliban of providing refuge to militants responsible for cross-border assaults, a claim that Kabul denies.
