Harvey Weinstein, a former prominent figure in Hollywood, is set to appear in court for the third time in New York to face multiple allegations of rape and sexual assault.

For more than two decades, Harvey Weinstein, along with his brother Bob Weinstein, managed Miramax, a production company known for its influence during awards season and Weinstein’s reputation for being both a tastemaker and a demanding figure. However, the #MeToo movement in 2017 led to numerous women coming forward with accusations of criminal sexual misconduct against him.

Following public allegations published in the New York Times and New Yorker, Weinstein was fired from his own company, the Weinstein Company. Subsequently, he was expelled from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and faced criminal charges in 2018.

Despite Weinstein’s consistent denial of any unlawful behavior, claiming that all interactions were consensual, he has not personally testified in any of his trials. His initial conviction in 2020 resulted in imprisonment, where he remains incarcerated.

Since his first conviction, a series of appeals and retrials have ensued, leading to multiple court appearances, with the latest scheduled for Tuesday. In his 2020 conviction, Weinstein was found guilty of third-degree rape and a first-degree criminal sexual act involving Jessica Mann, a hairstylist and actor, and Miriam Haley, a production assistant and producer, respectively. He was acquitted on three other charges, including predatory sexual assault. Both Mann and Haley opted for their names to be made public.

He began serving a 23-year prison sentence at Rikers Island following his 2020 conviction while also facing separate rape and sexual assault charges in Los Angeles.

In 2022, Weinstein was found guilty of the Los Angeles charges, receiving a 16-year sentence, which is to be served after his New York sentence is completed.

However, in 2024, a New York appeals court overturned his 2020 convictions due to significant errors in allowing testimony from unrelated complainants, citing New York’s “Molineux Rule” as a crucial issue from the trial’s onset.

At the subsequent 2025 retrial, charges related to Haley were upheld, but the charge of third-degree rape related to Mann ended in a hung jury due to juror conflicts.

New Allegations and Legal Proceedings

Mann testified about a complex relationship with Weinstein, stating that despite initial consent, she resisted his advances during an encounter in a Manhattan hotel room in 2013, ultimately feeling compelled to give in.

Another accuser, Kaja Sokola, a model turned psychotherapist, publicly alleged sexual assault in the 2025 trial but Weinstein was acquitted of this charge.

As the retrial commences, focusing on Mann’s accusations once again, Weinstein is appealing the Los Angeles verdict and plans to challenge the New York conviction involving Haley, which could lead to an additional 25 years of imprisonment. The retrial is anticipated to
