Following a record-breaking journey of 406,771 kilometers around the moon, Canadian Space Agency (CSA) astronaut Jeremy Hansen, along with NASA astronauts Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, and Christina Koch, are set to share more insights from their groundbreaking mission. The four astronauts will be fielding questions from the media at the Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas, at 2:30 p.m. ET today, with CBC.ca broadcasting the news conference live.
Since their return to Earth last Friday, the astronauts have undergone medical evaluations and mission debriefings, reuniting joyfully with their families. They have been warmly received, with neighbors lining the sidewalks in League City, Texas, cheering Victor Glover’s homecoming and Christina Koch being warmly greeted by her dog, Sadie.
The crew was also welcomed back by NASA Administrator Jared Isaacman at Ellington Field Joint Reserve Base in Houston on Saturday, where they were introduced to numerous VIP guests, including flight directors, Orion capsule and exploration system managers, high-ranking military officials, and members of Congress.
Expressing their deep bond and gratitude, astronaut Reid Wiseman described the unique experience of being 200,000 plus miles away from home, highlighting the importance of family and friends. The emotional reunion marked a significant moment for the crew, who trained together for years and spent 10 days in a capsule during the historic mission.
Amidst the celebrations, the astronauts have resumed work, with Hansen engaging in simulated lunar surface activities in a lunar spacesuit. The CSA announced Hansen’s involvement in the Aqualunar Challenge, where the Canadian Strategic Missions Corporation emerged as the winner of the $400,000 prize for developing water purification solutions for lunar settlements.
NASA’s plans to accelerate Artemis missions and establish a lunar base were also discussed by Isaacman, emphasizing the significance of Artemis II in advancing humanity’s space exploration endeavors. Hansen, acknowledging the collaborative effort behind the mission, reflected on their collective contribution and role in a larger mission.
