Netflix Canada to Adapt Carley Fortune’s “This Summer Will Be Different” into Series

Date:

Netflix Canada has revealed plans to adapt another one of Carley Fortune’s popular romance novels into a 10-episode series. The upcoming show is based on Fortune’s third book, titled “This Summer Will Be Different.” The story follows Lucy, who encounters Felix during a summer trip to Prince Edward Island. Despite their undeniable chemistry, there’s a complication: Felix is the younger brother of Lucy’s best friend, Bridget. As their paths continue to cross during Lucy’s visits to P.E.I., she struggles to resist Felix’s charm. When Bridget faces a crisis before her wedding, Lucy finds herself torn between guarding her heart and exploring her feelings for Felix.

The television adaptation will be filmed in Toronto and on Prince Edward Island to stay true to the novel’s settings. Carley Fortune, a Toronto-based writer and journalist, expressed her excitement about bringing the love story to life on screen. She drew inspiration from her own experiences on the island, emphasizing the beauty, warmth of the people, and enduring friendships that influenced her book.

Fortune, known for her other novels like “One Golden Summer,” “Every Summer After,” and “Meet Me at the Lake,” is set to release her latest book, “Our Perfect Storm,” on May 5. “Every Summer After” is currently being adapted into a TV series called “Every Year After” on Amazon Prime Video. Additionally, “Meet Me At the Lake” has been optioned for a film by Netflix and Archewell Productions, owned by Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.

Moreover, “Meet Me At the Lake” made history as the first romance title considered for Canada Reads, supported in 2024 by Mirian Njoh. The novel’s success has paved the way for more recognition within the literary community.
