Three men who accused actor Kevin Spacey of sexual assault have reached a settlement in their civil claims before the trial at the High Court in London, according to court documents. The allegations involved incidents spanning from 2000 to 2013, with Spacey denying the claims.
The civil trials, initially set to commence later this year, were put on hold by Judge Christina Lambert last week. The judge stated that the parties had agreed to the terms of the settlement, leading to a stay on further proceedings against the defendant in these actions.
The specific terms of the settlement were not disclosed, and the judge did not address the issue of costs. The order was dated Friday and made public on Wednesday. Spacey’s representatives have been contacted for a response regarding the settlement.
In 2023, Spacey faced a criminal trial in London on nine alleged sex offenses involving four men and was acquitted of all charges. Two of the civil claimants, whose identities remain protected, provided evidence during Spacey’s criminal trial.
In addition, Spacey successfully defended himself in a $40 million US civil lawsuit in New York in 2022 brought by actor Anthony Rapp from “Star Trek: Discovery.” Formerly a highly acclaimed actor, Spacey’s career suffered setbacks due to the sexual abuse allegations. His notable works include films such as “Glengarry Glen Ross” and “L.A. Confidential,” as well as the TV series “House of Cards.” Spacey received Academy Awards for his roles in “The Usual Suspects” and “American Beauty.”
Spacey, who served as the artistic director of London’s Old Vic Theatre from 2004 to 2015, has pursued roles in smaller films and stage productions in recent years, following a decline in mainstream Hollywood opportunities post-allegations.
