Two pairs from Canada have positioned themselves well for medals following the short program on Friday at Skate Canada International, part of the ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating event in Saskatoon. Deanna Stellato-Dudek and Maxime Deschamps are in second place with a score of 73.03, while Lia Pereira and Trennt Michaud are in third place with a score of 70.66.
Deschamps expressed gratitude for the enthusiastic crowd support, stating it’s always special to perform at home. Stellato-Dudek reflected on their performance, mentioning improvements compared to their previous Grand Prix event in France but also noting areas that need refinement.
Pereira and Michaud achieved a personal-best score in the short program, which they were thrilled about, especially given the opportunity to showcase their training on home ice. Meanwhile, Germany’s Minerva Fabienne Hase and Nikita Volodin lead the pairs competition with a score of 77.53.
Moving to the women’s event, Japan’s Mone Chiba leads with a score of 72.29, closely followed by American Isabeau Levito in second place and Italy’s Lara Naki Gutmann in third. Among the Canadians, Sara-Maude Dupuis is currently in eighth place with a score of 60.41, expressing delight at the crowd support and her performance.
