A teenager hailing from the Edmonton vicinity is facing fresh charges subsequent to a terrorism peace bond due to suspected ties to an online network promoting violent extremism. Originally taken into custody in May, the 15-year-old’s case initiated peace bond proceedings conducted by the RCMP under the apprehension of a terrorism-related offense.
Law enforcement officials indicated their belief that the adolescent was on the verge of engaging in terrorism-related activities linked to the 764 online network. This network, which preys on susceptible children through gaming platforms such as Minecraft and Roblox, entices victims into private online conversations. RCMP noted that the 764 network encourages young individuals to engage in sexual acts, self-harm, and the maltreatment of animals. Moreover, certain elements of the network are identified for possessing extreme ideological perspectives and are implicated in victimizing children by desensitizing and radicalizing them towards violence.
Authorities announced on Thursday that the recent actions were prompted by “escalatory behavior in a February 2025 incident.” A peace bond empowers investigators to monitor individuals displaying potential to commit offenses in the absence of concrete evidence of an actual crime. Subsequent to a forensic scrutiny of the youth’s electronic devices, RCMP pressed forward with the latest charges, including involvement in the activities of a terrorist group, deliberate promotion of hatred, uttering threats, and possession of material related to child sexual abuse.
Although law enforcement has refrained from disclosing additional details about the teenager, acknowledging that he cannot be identified in accordance with the Youth Criminal Justice Act, it has been confirmed by CBC News during previous court appearances that the individual is male. Presently, the teenager remains in custody at the Edmonton Young Offender Centre as confirmed by the RCMP. The youth is slated to make a court appearance on Friday.
