Ford’s U.S. Auto Sales Surge in 2025

Date:

Ford announced an increase in U.S. auto sales for 2025, driven by strong demand for hybrid models and affordable pickup trucks, which helped offset a decline in electric vehicle sales. The company’s annual sales rose by six percent to 2,204,124 vehicles, up from 2,078,832 the previous year. Ford also reported a 2.7 percent increase in fourth-quarter sales.

Describing it as their best annual sales and fourth-quarter performance since 2019, Ford highlighted that buyers opted for affordable base models to cope with the industry’s high prices. Other automakers like Toyota, Hyundai, and General Motors also reported higher annual sales despite challenges faced by the industry, including tariffs and the removal of the $7,500 U.S. electric vehicle tax credit.

Ford saw a significant increase in hybrid vehicle sales, which rose by nearly 22 percent to 228,072 units. Demand for the compact Maverick truck remained strong, with sales increasing by about 18 percent to 155,051 units. Andrew Frick, head of Ford’s gas and electric-vehicle operations, credited the Maverick for contributing to affordability in the market.

The F-series truck, a consistent top performer for Ford, experienced an 8.3 percent increase in sales, reaching 828,832 units. Additionally, the Ford Pro Transit van set a new sales record for the year. In December, Ford announced a $19.5 billion writedown and the discontinuation of several electric vehicle models, including the fully electric F-150 Lightning and the next-generation electric truck named the T3, as well as electric commercial vans.

Looking ahead, Ford plans to introduce a model that uses a gas engine to recharge the battery, replacing the all-electric F-150 Lightning, as part of its strategy in response to changing market dynamics.
