“Air Transat Pilots Approve New 5-Year Labor Deal”

Date:

Pilots employed by Air Transat have officially approved a new five-year labor agreement with the airline, concluding negotiations that began in December and narrowly prevented a potential strike. The agreement was reached just before the scheduled strike time, averting potential disruption during the busy holiday travel season.

As confirmed by a press release from the Air Line Pilots Association (ALPA), representing Air Transat’s pilots, 98% of the pilots participated in the voting process, with 91% voting in favor of the proposed contract. The ratified deal, effective from May 1, 2025, will remain in effect until April 30, 2030.

Captain Bradley Small, chair of the Air Transat ALPA master executive council, expressed satisfaction with the outcome, stating, “Our pilots worked together professionally to secure an agreement that recognizes our importance in the airline’s success.” Air Transat also acknowledged the ratification of the contract in a separate press release.

The airline’s President and CEO, Annick Guérard, emphasized the positive outcome of the vote, highlighting the comprehensive revision of the pilots’ collective agreement. The new deal acknowledges the pilots’ contributions while enhancing efficiency and productivity. Guérard thanked customers for their support during the period of uncertainty.

ALPA aimed to secure an agreement that would enhance pilots’ wages, job security, and overall quality of life, aligning with recent advancements in similar agreements at other Canadian airlines. Following the announcement of the tentative deal, Captain Small commended the terms for meeting the modern needs of the profession, in line with agreements reached by other ALPA-affiliated pilot groups.

Air Transat temporarily canceled some flights in anticipation of the strike, affecting certain travelers. However, flight operations resumed swiftly once the strike threat was averted, minimizing disruptions for passengers.
