Nick Reiner, the son of veteran actor-director Rob Reiner and photographer Michele Singer Reiner, has been apprehended in connection with the tragic deaths of his parents at their residence in Los Angeles on Sunday. The bodies of Rob and Michele were found inside the home, with authorities determining the deaths to be a homicide.
Rob Reiner, known for his role as Mike Stivic in the TV series “All in the Family” before transitioning to a successful career in film directing with hits such as “The Princess Bride” and “This is Spinal Tap,” first met Michele, a photographer, on the set of “When Harry Met Sally…” which he directed.
Nick Reiner, aged 32, is one of the three offspring shared by Rob and Michele, with an older brother, Jake Reiner, aged 34, and a younger sister, Romy Reiner, aged 27. Nick has battled drug addiction since his teenage years, facing periods of homelessness as a consequence. In an interview with People magazine in 2016, Nick revealed his struggles with addiction, recounting multiple rehab stays starting from the age of 15, totaling at least 17 stays over time.
A turning point came when Nick refused further rehab, leading to bouts of homelessness. Despite the challenges, Nick reflected on his past, acknowledging the close calls he faced, stating, “When I was out there, I could’ve died. It’s all luck. You roll the dice and you hope you make it.”
Nick and Rob collaborated on a film called “Being Charlie,” released in 2016, with Nick handling the writing and Rob taking the director’s chair. The movie, which won the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration’s Voice Award for best film in 2016, delves into the story of a rebellious teenage son of a politician and actor grappling with drug addiction.
In a shocking turn of events, the Los Angeles Police Department disclosed that Nick Reiner is being held accountable for the deaths of his parents, leading to his arrest on Sunday night without bail. The LAPD is proceeding with its investigation, with plans to present the case to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office.
As of now, there has been no response from representatives of the Reiner family regarding the incident, and it remains unclear if Nick Reiner has legal representation to address the accusations against him.
