In a remarkable turn of events, Yeshiva University and Lehman College ended their long losing streaks in college baseball history during an intense doubleheader in Teaneck, N.J.
Lehman College, located in the Bronx neighborhood of New York City, had struggled through a 42-game losing streak, with their last victory dated back to May 9, 2023. However, they managed to break this streak by securing a hard-fought 7-6 extra-inning win against Yeshiva in the first game of the doubleheader.
On the other hand, Yeshiva University had suffered an even longer streak of 99 consecutive losses since February 27, 2022. Yet, they found redemption in the second game, defeating Lehman 9-5 and finally putting an end to their winless run.
The game reached a tense tie, leading to extra innings where a crucial hit-by-pitch in the eighth inning helped Lehman secure their much-needed victory.
Justin Chamorro, a standout pitcher from Lehman, delivered an outstanding performance by throwing a complete game and striking out a career-high 13 batters. Chamorro shared his thoughts on the victory with host Nil Köksal from As It Happens.

I feel an overwhelming sense of relief and happiness. It’s a significant milestone for us. I’m thankful for this victory.
Enduring a long losing streak game after game must have been challenging. How did you manage to stay motivated?
It required a lot of perseverance and determination. As a team, our morale was affected by the continuous losses, but we kept pushing forward, knowing that victory was inevitable.
The breakthrough finally happened yesterday.
What lessons did you learn as a team from your past losses that helped you secure the win this time?
We focused on situational hitting and strategic play, understanding the game dynamics and executing our plans effectively. Defensively, we improved our coordination and communication, which played a vital role in our success after enduring numerous defeats.
At what point during the game did you realize that victory was within reach?
When we took the lead in the seventh inning, I felt a shift in momentum. I was determined to secure the win during my next inning on the mound. Confidence and teamwork were key
